Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain Director Harish Vyas Says, ‘As Old As This Film Is Getting, More People Are Watching It’-EXCLUSIVE
Writer-director Harish Vyas recently released his latest film Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele on Disney+ Hotstar. The film features Anshuman Jha, who is also a producer on the film, and Zareen Khan, portraying the characters of two homosexuals who embark on an accidental road trip. In a week since its release, the film crossed two million streams on the platform and is doing well. Apart from that, another film of Harish, Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain, recently completed three years.

The 2017 film featured Sanjay Mishra, Pankaj Tripathi, Anshuman and Shivani Raghuvanshi. Talking about the film, Harish gets emotional and says, “Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain was and still is very close to my heart, as it was my first film as a director. While growing up, as a cinema lover, I had this image of how a film would look on a big screen and when I made mine, I tried to live up to that,” he shares.

However, Harish insists that it did hurt at that time when the film didn’t perform well commercially. “Our public wasn’t the same as for those films that I had grown up watching and our scale also wasn’t that big, so our film didn’t run in the theatres as good as it should have. So, there was a bit of sadness that we made a good film but it didn’t work that well,” he avers.

Although, Harish’s film got a second lease of life when it released digitally. “When it released on Amazon Prime Video, I saw the film’s effect there. People loved it there and as old as it is getting, more people are watching it. Many times, I read the film’s reviews on Google, put up by people and sometimes they point out things that even I didn’t notice. This feeling is so good and recently I watched the film again and noticed all these things,” he smiles.

Harish goes on to say that the subject of his film and the performances grasp the audiences. “Above that, the way we have shown Banaras in it, very few films have done that. Performances of Pankaj ji and Sanjay ji was par excellence in the film. It has been three years but we are still getting such amazing response. It has made it clear that good films are accepted on small screen as much as on big screen. You can say these small, beautiful stories just because of the digital medium,” he concludes.
